Year 4 – Curriculum (Teacher Mr Lewis)
Hello everybody and welcome to year 4!
I’m Mr Lewis and I would like to offer you all a warm welcome to my class. I have already met everyone during summer when I was able to see what a hard working group of polite children you all are. I am really looking forward to working with each and everyone one of you in the coming months.
We will begin developing our English skills using an exciting ‘Space Explorer’ theme where we will read many types of text while identifying and summarising the main ideas to improve on our comprehension skills, before moving onto planning and writing a diary entry through the eyes of an astronaut. In addition to this we will also incorporate drama and role play to enhance the learning experience.
Maths will continue to be taught as both stand-alone lessons and lessons which will be closely linked to our current theme of the Anglo Saxons and Vikings. This theme will be exciting for us all to discover how these skilled sailors and warriors invaded areas of Britain many years ago. We will learn about how these people lived, what clothing they wore, what food they ate, what battles they undertook and much more. Throughout this interesting topic we will study history, geography, DT, art, and science.
We will be joined every Monday by Coach Dave for PE with an additional PE session on a Friday which will be taught by myself. Mrs. Court will take you for singing practice each Wednesday. Madame Hay will continue developing our French skills every Friday and Mrs Lawton will be working with you on your grammar on Thursday mornings. We will also be very privileged to have the additional help provided by both Mrs. Lamb and Mr. Withnell every day of the week. Weekly Maths homework will be set using ‘My Maths’ and there will also be a spelling test each week.
We also this year have the added excitement of our residential visit in November to the centre at Beeston when we will do a range of exciting and challenging activities.
I’m sure you will all agree the coming months look very busy and very exciting. I am certain we are going to have a great time working together.
See you all soon!
