PGL – Year 6 Residential Trip 2017

What an awesome week!  Our journey from Lower Peover, (with 23 ecstatic children, Mr. Haslam, Miss Watson and myself) took us to PGL Boreatton Park, Shropshire.  Following our arrival, meeting Al (our amazing groupie), unpacking, tour of the site and dinner, we trouped along to the Campfire for singing and smores.  It was a great start to the week.

The next day, we found ourselves climbing an 8 metre pole and jumping off the top of it onto a trapeze swing, shooting targets and battleships in the rifle range superseded by rafting games and raft battle – that was just day one!

The challenges, fun and laughter continued throughout the week with the children singing songs and chants everywhere they went.  There was an activity to suit everyone of all abilities from fencing, archery and aeroball to survivor skills and kayaking.  They approached everything with great excitement and enthusiasm, displaying individual qualities, leadership and team working skills. Those of us feeling a little apprehensive about some of the activities, faced our fears and found ourselves doing the unimaginable: abseiling down a 23 metre wall, the giant swing, scaling the 23 metre climbing wall and crawling through narrow, pitch-black tunnels!  It was an amazing sense of achievement for all of us. It really was non-stop with evenings filled with sports challenges, a unique version of cluedo and our very own birthday celebration and disco for Emilie on the last night.  It was great to see Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Broadbent and Mr. Bradley visit us during the week.  They too found themselves joining in the activities which was great fun.

We all saw a very different side to the children which was wonderful to see. As a parent governor and helper in Year 6, the children were a credit to our school and it was a privilege for me to spend the week with them at PGL.  Thank you for asking me to be part of it.
