YEAR 5 PILGRIM DAY- TUESDAY 11TH OCTOBER
Year 5 enjoyed their trip to Chester Cathedral for the annual Pilgrim Day. The children all dressed up as monks and enjoyed a meal of apple juice and bread, eaten in complete silence like monks. They were less enthusiastic about Mr Thomas’ idea of introducing silence at mealtimes in school!
They also took part in a variety of activities, from making their own concertina books to calligraphy. One group were lucky enough to climb all the way to the top of the tower, where they enjoyed a splendid view of Chester (though they were a bit alarmed by the hairy walls on the way up!).
FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT UPDATE
On Monday evening, the school football team took part in an inter-school tournament which was hosted by Holmes Chapel Primary School. Not only did the team play extremely well, coming 3rd out of 6 teams, they were also a credit to the school and their parents as they displayed great courage, determination and sportsmanship when losing one their team members to an injury. We all hope Joshua makes a speedy recovery. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the children’s parents for their support during the event and I hope to see you at others throughout the year. – Mr Haslam
HARVEST FESTIVAL- Wednesday 20th October 9.15am
The school ‘Harvest Festival’ is in St. Oswald’s church, on Wednesday 20th October 2016. This is traditionally led by the Year 6 children with all children taking part in the singing. This year we ask that you send in tins of goods which are suitable to be donated to the local ‘food bank’. This links to the Christian value of ‘SERVICE’, by helping local people in our community. The tins can be brought in to school from Monday 17th October.
FLPS – Harvest Festival
Members of FLPS will be serving tea and coffee in the school hall, following the ‘Harvest Festival’. The book fair will also be available after the service, in school, allowing you time to choose a book with your child/ children.
Thank you to Kathy McIntyre for arranging our book fair. The children will be able to choose a book in school time with the help of Kathy. A slip will be sent home containing your child’s choice of book, if you wish to purchase the book please send the correct money in to school. Alternatively, the book fair will be available following the ‘Harvest Festival’.
We are grateful for the help we receive from parents during the school day. If you would like to support us, in school, please contact Miss Dawson or Mrs. Perry. Thank you.
GUEST READERS FOR RECEPTION AND KEY STAGE 1.
The children love it when a ‘guest reader’ arrives on a Friday afternoon (2.45 pm). If you would like to read a story to children in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 please contact Miss Dawson.
ARRIVING AT SCHOOL
The new policy of opening the school 5 minutes earlier is working really well. The vast majority of children are in school and working by 9am. For health and safety please can I ask that no-one overtakes cars outside school, or on ‘The Cobbles’. Also, please give priority to the school bus when it is coming down ‘The Cobbles’- thank you.
Thank you to the parents/ carers who joined Mrs. Perry in school on Thursday 13th October. She will circulate further information soon.
This has been arranged for Wednesday 26th October from 9.30-11.30 or 1.30 -3pm. If you know anyone who is interested in joining Lower Peover Primary School in September 2017 (or before), I would be grateful if you pass on this information.
A reminder that the NSPCC representative will return to school on 21st October to issue badges and to collect any sponsorship money. The money can be sent in to school from next Monday 17th October.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
We are happy to receive any shoe boxes for this appeal, whenever they are available. The children love to see the wall of shoe boxes grow.
