School Newsletter – 9 September 2016
Posted by: Debbie Rutter on September 10, 2016 at 7:12 pm
Welcome back to school after the summer break. Thank you to all the staff for preparing their rooms and curriculum for the start of the new year. Also, a huge thank you to Mr. Pugh for working so hard in the school during the last 6 weeks. We welcome Mr. Jason Haslam as Deputy Head and Mr. David Bradley teaching Year 1. The new Reception children have settled in extremely well and it was lovely to see the afternoon group of children (this week) being welcomed in collective worship, by the whole school.
TOUGH MUDDER- THIS WEEKEND
Please support the DOLP (Dads of Lower Peover) who are fundraising for school. Please click on the link, if you wish to donate. Good luck- this is quite a challenge!
SCHOOL OPENING UP TIME
Following consultation with traffic management and Lower Peover Governors, we have decided to open the school doors at 8.40 am (instead of 8.45 am). We will monitor the impact this has on the congestion at the bottom of ‘The Cobbles’. For those who arrive nearer 8.40am the children’s time in the classroom will be spent in a positive way, with meaningful educational activities arranged for them. The register will be taken at 9am promptly. Governors play a key role in monitoring attendance and punctuality.
DATES FOR 2016- 2017
An overview of all the dates for 2016-2017 have been put on the website calendar. Thank you to Mrs. Rutter for completing this. We do try not to alter dates but, sometimes it is out of our control. The calendar will be updated as the year progresses.
ROALD DAHL DAY
Next Friday, 16th September, is national Roald Dahl day. On this day the children may dress up as their favourite Roald Dahl character. If they have a book they can bring their favourite Roald Dahl book to school (but, this isn’t essential)
The children will be having their individual school photos on Thursday 22nd September. If they have younger siblings that you would like to appear with them in the photo please be in school by 9am
A reminder that children do not need pencil cases at school. We provide all the items the children require.
BEHAVIOUR SYSTEMS- PARENTS/CARERS MEETING
On our school INSET day staff discussed the ‘way forward’ with rewards and sanctions in school. Mr. Haslam would like to invite parents/carers to a consultation meeting on Tuesday 20th September at 2pm- 3pm. Following the meeting Mr.Haslam will send all parents/carers a draft behaviour policy for you to comment on.
Mrs. Perry and Miss Watson lead the ‘School Council’. The children from Year 1 to Year 6 will be asked to talk to their class about why they would make a good school council leader. The class then vote anonymously for their representative. The new ‘School Council’ will be announced in collective worship on Monday 19th September.
This is a new venture for Lower Peover. The ‘ethos group’ will be led by Mr. Haslam and Mrs. Broadbent. More information will follow very soon!
Newsletters are sent home weekly and contain relevant up to date information. If there is anything you would like to see in the newsletter, please let me know.
These are sent home on the first Friday of each half term. They give an overview of the coverage for the half term. It also supports us in home /school communication.
BIBLES FOR RECEPTION AND YEAR 3
St. Oswald’s church provide Bibles for children in school. When children enter reception they are presented with a Bible to take home, keep and share with family. When children move into key Stage they are presented with a Bible, to keep in school, to support the learning in R.E. When the children leave school they take the Bibles with them. Thank you for St. Oswald’s church for providing the children with such a valuable resource.
SUPPORT IN SCHOOL
We value and appreciate all the support we receive in school. If you feel you can offer your time hearing children read, practicing number bonds and times tables (for example) please contact Miss Dawson (email@example.com) or Mrs. Perry (firstname.lastname@example.org) We ask that you undergo clearance to work with children and sign a confidentiality statement. Thank you.
NSPCC WORKSHOPS AND FUNDRAISING
Every 2 years the NSPCC come into school and present workshops to Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The initial presentation will be on Monday 3rd October 1.15 for reception/ Key stage 1 and 2pm for Key Stage 2. The NSPCC send the children home with fundraising activities to be completed. The activities are: Seaside Shapes for Reception, Buddy’s Workout for Year 1 and Year 2 and ‘Meaningful Maths’ for Key Stage 2. I hope you will support the fundraising event. The NSPCC then deliver further workshop events at school.
We are introducing Forest Skills during this year. This will be led by Coach Dave and the class teachers. This half term Years 4 and 5 will be using the outdoor forest area. It was wonderful to see Year 4, this week, linking the outdoor environment to their topic on Vikings. The children were writing their names, in runes, using twigs and creating longboats.
This has been arranged for Wednesday 26th October from 9.30-11.30 or 1.30 -3pm. If you know anyone who is interested in joining Lower Peover Primary School in September 2017 ( or before), I would be grateful if you pass on this information.

This year, the School Council are going to lead a school vote on one charity that we will raise money for. The proceeds will be sent via the school office. When the children have decided I will let you know. Any future bake sales will raise funds for the one charity- thank you for your support.
